African players in Europe: Salah scores, takes selfies as Reds seal title

African superstar Mohamed Salah scored and took selfies with supporters as Liverpool clinched a record-equalling 20th Premier League title at the weekend.

The runaway leaders came from behind to trounce lowly Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield and take an unassailable 15-point lead over second-placed Arsenal.

It was the 28th league goal this season for the 32-year-old Egypt captain -- six more than closest Golden Boot rival Alexander Isak of Newcastle United with four rounds remaining.

Here, AFP Sport highlights African headline-makers in the major European leagues:

ENGLAND

MOHAMED SALAH (Liverpool)

Salah bagged Liverpool's fourth goal on 63 minutes, and moved to fifth in the league's all-time scoring chart with 185, before celebrating the title triumph by taking selfies with fans. He hailed the success as "way better" than their previous title in 2020.

ANTOINE SEMENYO (Bournemouth)

The Ghana midfielder put the Cherries ahead in a 1-1 draw against Manchester United. Semenyo netted in the 23rd minute with a powerful finish that took a slight deflection off United midfielder Casemiro. But Semenyo's 11th goal this season was not enough to seal a Bournemouth league double over United as Rasmus Hojlund equalised in stoppage time.

NICOLAS JACKSON (Chelsea)

The Senegal striker ended his 13-game goal drought to seal a crucial 1-0 win against Everton.Jackson struck in the 27th minute with a fine strike from long range to get on the scoresheet for the first time since December. The much-maligned Jackson's 10th goal of the season was enough to lift Enzo Maresca's side to fifth.

GERMANY

SERHOU GUIRASSY (Borussia Dortmund)

Guirassy starred again in the Bundesliga as Dortmund beat Hoffenheim 3-2 to keep their Champions League bid alive. Guirassy put Dortmund in front after 20 minutes, slicing a low shot into the bottom left corner. Later, a pinpoint pass from the Guinea international found Waldemar Anton, who scored the winner in the fifth minute of added time. Guirassy has 30 goals and nine assists in all competitions for Borussia this season.

FRANCE

YOUSSOUF NDAYISHIMIYE (Nice)

The Burundi international defender wore the captain's armband and scored the killer third goal as Nice won 3-1 at Paris Saint-Germain, ending the Ligue 1 champions' hopes of becoming the first team to complete a French top-flight season without losing. The result kept Nice's hopes of Champions League qualification alive. It was Ndayishimiye's second goal in three games.

AMINE GOUIRI (Marseille)

The France-born Algeria forward scored a hat-trick as Marseille beat Brest 4-1 to retake second place. The highlight was his second goal, a wonderful overhead kick. Gouiri, 25, who missed last year's Africa Cup of Nations due to injury, has now scored seven goals in 11 appearances since joining Marseille from Rennes in January.
